$1 a week - really?

We are a group of citizens of Greenethorpe and surrounds, some from established families and some newcomers. Our school and village are suffering from falling numbers, so we hope to encourage families to move here to revitalise the area. There are several houses available for rent on nearby properties, and some in the village itself.

Other towns have led the way with the idea of low-rent houses or low-cost properties, we're following in their footsteps. See the website about the success of the town of Cumnock, and the TV show done by A Current Affair on 20 Mar 2009.

We will be offering these places at low rental to the people we think will be of benefit to the village from the applications we receive. Families with small children of Infants and Primary School ages, committed to our small and caring school, will have a higher chance of success. Renovation skills will also be taken into account for some houses.

So, houses which need work will be offered at $1 a week, plus renovation work and materials provided by the tenants.
